Keynote Speech by Lord Sonny Leung
Session 1: Conversations with ESEA Councillors
- Alex Yip Birmingham City Council (Conservative), Katie Thornburrow Cambridge City Council (Labour) and Linda Chung London Borough of Camden (Liberal Democrats) will share their motivation for becoming politicians, any experience of racism they may have encountered and what their Council may be doing to tackle hate crime/racism in your constituency.
Session 2: A discussion on the diversity of books and the impact on representation in education
- The panellist includes educators and authors Angelina Wong-Jardin, Eva Wong Nava and Hannah Ho. Masie Chan will also speak via a video recording.
Session 3: On Your Side - Reporting racism and hate crime
- Yinsey Wang from Voice ESEA will present data from police forces across the UK outlining level of reported hate crime targeting ESEA communities in 2021. Andy Fearn and Trà My Hickin from Protection Approaches will present the On Your Side Service, why it’s needed and lessons learned since launch’
Session 4: Keeping Safe
- Pat Davey from SAFE Community Security Trust will share his experience of how other ethnic communities have delt with hate crime, as well as how we might respond when confronted with racist and hate crimes situations.
