United Nations Anti Racism Day

Updated: May 14, 2022

March Against Racism 19th and 20th March 2022

“The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960. In 1979, …… the General Assembly decided that a week of solidarity with the peoples struggling against racism and racial discrimination, beginning on 21 March, would be organized annually in all States.”

For 2022, World Against Racism has coordinated international protests and marches for Saturday 19th March. Here, in the UK, Stand Up Against Racism has organised marches in London, Glasgow and Cardiff.

CARG encourages East and Southeast Asians in the UK to March Against Racism. Many anti-racism organisations will be marching and we need to participate to vocalise our ESEA voices. The Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding will be marching to Stand Up Against Sinophobia. They will raise a Banner or a Chinese Lion. You could join them or march with other groups.
